At the end of March, a very unexpected work trip brought me out to San Francisco for a few days. When I first graduated from college, I moved out there for an incredible work opportunity. This was the first time I had been back in 5 years! While my time in California was relatively short, it was absolutely one of the best experiences of my life. It was a huge leap for me to move out there alone and scary to be so far from the East Coast. Living out there [and the cross-country drive home] really sparked my interest and obsession with travel and visiting new places.
I had one day to revisit some of my favorite places. I rented a little red Versa and hit the road. I drove straight to my old apartment complex in Alameda which is right on the water. The boardwalk was my favorite place to run and I remember each day thinking how lucky I was to live there. After walking the boardwalk and around Park Street, I drove to In-n-Out Burger. If I was going to the West Coast, I was going to get a burger. Annnd it was just as good as I remember it. I then went to Battery Spencer to get a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco that I had never seen before [think opening credits of Full House] It was amazing!! And I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Bay Area. I finished the day with a delicious dinner in North Beach with my ‘older sister’ who took great care of me while I lived there and became a close friend along the way.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity I had to get back to California. It definitely makes you realize just how quickly time passes! Hopefully it will not be another 5 years before my next return.
My little rental in front of my old complex.
